Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 Review

Although the smartphone market seems to be dominated by one name Apple, there are many others out there offering phones that are as good as the iPhone. The Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 runs the Android operating system and gives you access to thousands of free applications.

The Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 Unlocked Phone is sold by AT&T and operates in dual mode, its quad-band GSM 800, 850, 1800 and 1900 MHz mode, as well as its 850, 1900 and 2100 MHz Edge/GPRS mode through HSDPA/UMTS. The X10 run the Android operating system that offers one access to thousands of free apps that support Android-based devices. It is true that Apple's iPhone 4S does offer nearly 500,000 apps, but the key difference here is that you must purchase them through the Apple App store and they lock you tightly into Apple's proprietary operating system iOS5.

The X10 is small and lightweight 2.5 inches by 4.7 inches by 0.5 inches. Its four-inch screen offer and enhanced palette of colors and great contrast so that images appear bright and text seems to leap out of the screen. The screen also offers an onscreen QWERTY-style keyboard that makes texting easy, although the letters are not quite big enough to permit touch-style typing. This means one has two options for texting or creating memos or emails and that is using two- or three-fingered typing or thumbing. It's more than likely that you'll end up using a combination of two- and three-fingered typing and thumbing, depending on the mode you are in. For example, if you are writing a long email - the X10 access standard email and Exchange mail - then it's likely that you will use two- or three-fingered mode, while a quick text or IM will be thumbed into the X10.

Network aware, the X10 recognizes WiFi standards 802.11 b/g /n which means that it will work with older networking devices and routers while it will also search for WiFi hotspots. This allows one the advantage of finding a hotspot in any of the many cities and towns where WiFi networking is growing and it means that one is seldom out of touch with the Internet.

That, though, is the purpose of this smartphone, which driven by the 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. And, when you add in the total of 32 GB of memory that the X10 can use, you have a very powerful smartphone available.

One thing one is sure to note is that since the Android operating system level is at least 2.1 or higher, there are thousands of apps available. Many of those apps enable social networking. For example, there are apps available that enable one to take advantage of Facebook or Twitter and there are other apps that let one stream not only audio but video.

The 1500 lithium-ion battery offers at least 8 hours of talk time and up to 415 hours of standby time.

The X10 offers not only a USB interface, through which one can charge the battery, as well as upload and download data or images.

Overall, the Xperia X10, though first offered two years ago, is still a very important smartphone and one that is well worth the investment.

Comparing Two Of The Best Android Phones Today - The Sony Xperia S And The Samsung Galaxy S2

We are all lucky to have witnessed the release of the Sony only brand handset the Sony Xperia S this year. We are also all lucky to have been graced with one of the most powerful and best-selling smartphone to date, and I am talking about the Samsung Galaxy S2. In this article, we will try to pit two of these handsets against each other. In short, I will try to compare them and tell you why they both deserve your attention. Read on!

Let us now talk about their displays. Let us start with the Xperia S. It packs a 4.3" LED backlit LCD touch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels with a pixel density of 342 ppi. The Galaxy S2 on the other hand, packs the same screen size (4.3") but uses the Super AMOLED Plus display technology. It comes in with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and a pixel density of 217 ppi. As you can see, the Xperia S bags the title for packing a powerful screen resolution and clearer pixel density at 342 ppi. But on the other hand, the Galaxy S2 is packed with Super AMOLED Plus screen display. Between the two handsets, they are both capable of delivering smooth graphics and vivid screen colors. In short, they are both winners in this category.

Let us now move on their processors. Again, we are starting off with the Xperia S. It is packed with a powerful dual-core processor using Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon chipset. It clocks at an amazing speed of 1.5GHz. On the other hand, the Galaxy S2 packs the same dual-core processor. The only difference is that it clocks at 1.2GHz only and it used Exynos chipset. If you look at the numbers, the difference is not that huge. They are still known for bearing the same powerful dual-core processing prowess.

Moving on, let us now talk about their cameras. And again, let me start with the Xperia S. It is packed with a powerful 12MP shutter with resolution of 4000 x 3000 pixels. It can record videos at 1080 pixels and at 30 frames per second (fps). It boasts a 1.3MP front-facing shutter with a resolution of 720 pixels and can shoot at 30 frames per second (fps). The Galaxy S2 comes in with 8MP shutter with resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels and can shoot videos at 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second (fps). It packs a 2MP front-facing shutter. Now, it is quite obvious that Sony bags the title for better and powerful primary camera. Samsung on the other hand, wins the title for better front-facing camera.

Both of these handsets originally shipped with Android Gingerbread. However, the Galaxy S2 is now upgradable to the latest Android Iteration the Ice Cream Sandwich. On the other hand, the Xperia S is still waiting for its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. Another point goes to Samsung for getting the much awaited Ice Cream Sandwich update ahead of Sony.

If you look at the main features of these handsets, it is not that quite hard to believe why they are so famous and loved right now. They have the processing prowess that mobile phone users are into right now. They also have good shutters that we all use on a daily basis.

This is the end of my comparison note. This is my version of comparing two of the best Android handsets today, the Sony Xperia S and the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Comparing The Sony Xperia Sola And Samsung Galaxy Ace 2

March of 2012, Sony announced one of their latest Sony Xperia handsets the Xperia Sola. February of 2012, Samsung announced the latest Galaxy member and the sequel to their mid-range handset the Galaxy Ace. In this article I will talk about these two new and up and coming Android phones, the Sony Xperia Sola and the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2. I will start my comparison note with the Sony Xperia Sola followed by the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2. Read on!

Let us talk about display screens and how these two handsets match up with each other. The Xperia Sola packs a 3.7" capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and pixel density of 265 ppi. It comes in with a latest technology called the "Floating Touch". On the other hand, the Galaxy Ace 2 packs a 3.8" PLS TFT capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and pixel density of 246 ppi. This handset may not have the floating touch but it comes packed with TouchWiz version 3.0 User Interface. When it comes to packing the biggest display screen, I give Sony a whole good point. But when it comes to packing the handset with more screen resolution and higher pixel density, I give Sony a whole good point as well. I guess, they are quite even when it comes to this category.

Let us now move on to processors and memory capacity. Sony packed its handset with a dual-core processor which clocks at a speed rate of 1GHz. It also comes in with 8GB worth of memory storage space (with only 5GB of it accessible to the user). You will also get 512MB worth of RAM on this. There is also a microSD card slot on this handset for more storage capacity. Samsung on the other hand packed its handset with the same dual-core processor, but it only clocks at the speed of 800MHz. It comes in with 4GB worth of storage space and 768MB worth of RAM. You will also add more memory and as much as 32GB on this handset via its microSD card slot.

Let us now talk about their OS. Sony packed its handset with Android Gingerbread but this is upgradeable to the latest Android Iteration in the near future. On the other hand, Samsung packed its handset with the same Android Gingerbread for its OS. But there is no planned upgrade for this handset. When it comes to OS, they are both even. But this case won't be for too long because Sony planned an upgrade for its OS in the near future.

As you can see, they are both winners. They may have minor differences but, they are still both winners.

This is my brief comparison note on the Sony Xperia Sola and Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.

Sony Xperia P - Sony's Mid-Range NXT Series

A mid-range smartphone in the Xperia NXT series, this is what the Sony Xperia P is all about. This handset sits above the its sibling the entry-level Sony Xperia U and sit below its other sibling the Sony Xperia S. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of this trio is HTC One Series trilogy, but then again that is another subject for another article. One thing is for sure, this handset shares a common design aspect with its NXT series siblings.

If you look at this handset, the first thing you will say is that it has everything that you will ever need in a smartphone. It comes packed with a powerful dual-core processor which clocks at an amazing speed of 1GHz. It comes in with a 4" qHD display screen coupled with new exciting technology. Last but not the least; it comes heavily packed with Sony's latest and highly acclaimed Exmor R camera sensors. See what I mean? Everything on paper about it will tell you that it has everything that you will ever need.

When it comes to the phone's design, you will definitely agree with me that this handset is quite attractive and that this can pass as Sony's flagship. There is also a huge resemblance to the Xperia S when it comes to design. But this handset is the shrunken version of it. You will also find that famous transparent strip that divides the handset into two. But if you put this side by side with the Xperia S, you will notice that they have subtle differences.

If you look closely, you will notice the phone's aluminum body. Unlike its older and bigger sibling the Xperia S, this is not made out of plastic. This specific handset according to Sony boasts a unibody design because its back cover is made from a single piece of metal only. If think of it, this handset is more sturdy that its older sibling. This handset is also capable of giving you that smooth feel while it is in your hands.

This handset weighs in at 120 grams. It is also quite narrow with its 0.9mm thickness. The phone's front side houses its 4" qHD WhiteMagic LCD, notification light, and its front-facing VGA camera. You will also find a row of three capacitive buttons just inside the phone's transparent strip. You will also love how these tiny capacitive buttons are strategically distanced from each other. This will help you avoid any accidental presses while using this handset.

As you can see, this mid-range NXT series handset has a lot to offer you. May it be design wise or functionality wise the Sony Xperia P will truly amaze you.

Sony Xperia S Champion Of The NXT Series

We were all surprised when Sony parted ways with Ericsson. But we were all shocked when Sony released its first Sony only branded handset the Sony Xperia S. Back in January of this year, the arrival of this new handset was announced by Sony. Today, this is still known as the Xperia Series flagship and the current champion of the NXT series. In this article, let's all get to know this handset and its offerings. Read on!

The Xperia S is packed with a tack-sharp 720 x 1280 pixels display screen and it comes in with an amazing 12MP rear shutter (4000 x 3000 pixels). This is also the basis for the Xperia line design trend. We all have witnessed the old Sony Ericsson Xperia line, but the release of this handset brings massive enhancements to it.

Even though this handset came out in the time of handsets with Quad-Core processors and latest Android Iteration (Ice Cream Sandwich), you will still be amazed at how Sony was able to give a strong fight against new-fangled flagships of today.

Even if the latest Android OS update is just looming around the corner, other smartphones and flagships out there are not equipped with a 4.3" LED-backlit capacitive touch screen with 16 Million colors. The phone's screen resolution is at 720 x 1280 pixels (342 ppi pixel density). Others are also without a 12MP rear-facing shutter but this handset is equipped with one and it can record videos in full-HD at 1080 pixels and at 30 frames per second. It also comes in with a 1.3MP front-facing shutter (720 pixels). These features alone are enough to beat new-fangled flagships and upper mid-range handsets out there. But then again, this handset is more than just its amazing screen and its powerful camera. There are other exciting features that you will love on this handset.

Speaking of which, let me tell you about its amazing design. Yes, this handset is packed with a transparent strip that lights up whenever you receive notifications. It is also a handset with an extreme futuristic design. When it comes to dimensions, this handset simply stands out. With its 128 x 64 x 10.6 mm built, this is something that will truly amaze you. The phone weighs in at 144 grams only. It is absolutely light and slim.

This handset is also packed with extra value when it comes to software and hardware. This handset is NFC enabled and it comes in with two smart tags (in the box) and extensive app for support as well. You will also get a 32GB worth of internal storage on this handset. You may not be able to add more, but then again it is quite big enough for all of your files.

As you can see, these are the very reasons why the Sony Xperia S is the champion of the NXT series.

Sony Xperia P - A Real Gem

During the CES 2012, Sony unveiled the Sony Xperia S. This is also Sony's first handset after parting ways with Ericsson. After that during the MWC 2012, Sony added two more Xperia line handsets, they are the Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia U. These handsets are known as Mid-Range Android handsets. In this article, we will talk about the Sony Xperia P. Read on!

Let us start with the phone's display. This handset packs a 4" screen that is equipped with Sony's Reality Display technology and Sony's WhiteMagic. The WhiteMagic is capable of allowing you to see the phone's screen even under bright and direct sunlight. The phone's screen is a bit smaller than its sibling the Xperia S which boasts a 4.3" display. But then again, this is easier to pocket than its sibling. Sony uses their Mobile Bravia Engine on the phone's display. This is also the very same technology that Sony uses for their televisions. The phone's screen colors are vibrant and glossy too.

When it comes to the phone's design, this handset shares the same design as its sibling the Xperia S. As we all know, the Xperia S is the flagship for the Xperia Series or line. In this handset, you will see that familiar looking transparent strip located at the bottom part of the phone. This is also known to signal you whenever you get phone calls and text messaged. It can do so by lighting up that transparent strip. This handset also features an aluminum unibody case. If you think that the Xperia S and Xperia U are better than this, then think again. The phone's siblings are using plastic unibody case. The phone's metal design makes this handset lighter and yet it gives you that sturdy feel that is quite hard to find on smartphones today. The Xperia P is also thin.

The handset currently runs on Android Gingerbread. But do not let that put you down. This handset will soon get the famous Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. This handset packs a powerful dual-core processor which clocks at an amazing 1GHz speed. Everything on this handset runs smoothly and fast. This handset packs an 8MP Shutter with a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. The phone's video recording is at 1080 pixels and at 30 frames per second (fps).

As you can see, these are just some of the reasons why this Sony Xperia P is considered as a gem. It is packed with features that no ordinary Mid-Range Android handsets can offer you.

Cameras Compared On The HTC One S And Sony Xperia P

The HTC One S is one of HTC's newest smartphones in the company's first batch of Android 'Ice Cream Sandwich' powered handsets. Sony have also recently released a number of new Android smartphones, among them the stylish Sony Xperia P. In this article I will compare the camera features of these two impressive handsets.

On the paper, you will see that the camera specs of these handsets initially look quite similar; both offering cameras with an 8 megapixel resolution of 3264x 2448 and the usual image enhancing features like LED flash, auto and touch focus, face and smile detection and image stabilisation. Furthermore, both cameras are able to shoot video footage with a maximum resolution of 1080p which is classed as full high definition.

Despite these similarities, there are several differences to consider if these phones are on the shortlist for your next mobile phone choice. The HTC One S, like the rest of the One range (such as new flagship the HTC One X) has HTC's most advanced camera to date. If you have seen the recent TV advertising campaign in the UK, you will be familiar with the presence of a number of camera features which sets the HTC One S apart. These include the ability to simultaneously capture still images which you are recording HD video footage. This feature can be used for adding freeze-frame style shots into videos which can then be edited on the phone.

The Sony Xperia P lacks this feature, but makes up for it with an impressive 3D sweep panorama shot mode which works surprisingly well. When you have selected the sweep panorama mode, the screen will display a grid for you to line up your shot. Once you have lined it up, tap the capture button and slowly turn 360 degrees keeping the grid lined up at all times. When you have done this, the software will automatically end the sequence and then load the photo for you to view on the screen.

Because both of these phones run the Android operating system and have powerful dual-core processors you will find that they are equally as user friendly in terms of the camera interface layout and they also respond quickly when you tap the capture button or access any of the in-camera settings menus whereby you can adjust various settings like video and photo resolutions, flash settings and autofocus settings.

For the everyday user, both the HTC One S and the Sony Xperia P provide great image and video quality and are easy to use. Choosing between them is likely to come down to personal preference for the features like the simultaneous photo and video capture (HTC One S) or the 3D sweep panorama mode (Sony Xperia P).

Both are stylish handsets which offer plenty more besides their camera and they show why Android is now the most popular mobile operating system in the world.

A Comparison Between The Sony Xperia U And HTC One V

We have seen the best handsets from the Sony Xperia line and the HTC One line. Now, let us talk about the budget friendly and mid-range handsets in the likes of Sony Xperia U and HTC One V. This article is all about comparing these two new Android smartphones from Sony and HTC. Read on!

Let us start with their display screens. The Sony Xperia U comes in with a 3.5" LED-backlit LCD touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and pixel density of 280 ppi. On the other hand, the HTC One V packs a 3.7" Capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and pixel density of 252 ppi. The One V may pack a bigger screen, but the Xperia S packs a higher screen resolution.

Let us now move on to their processors and memory. I will start with the Xperia U again. It packs a dual-core processor using STE U8500 chipset and it clocks at 1GHz. The handset also ships with 4GB worth of internal storage and 512MB worth of RAM. Unfortunately, there is no option for additional memory storage space via a microSD slot. On the other side of the equation is the 1GHz processor speed of the One V. It comes in with the same 4GB storage space as the Xperia S and 512MB worth of RAM. But the good news is that you can add more memory on this handset via its microSD card slot. You can add as much as 32GB worth of storage space on this handset. When it comes to processing prowess, the Xperia U is the winner with its dual-core processor. However, when it comes to memory the One X is the winner.

Moving on, let us now tackle their operating systems. To start off the Xperia U ships with the older Android OS the Android Gingerbread. But there is an expect upgrade to the latest Android Iteration the Ice Cream Sandwich on this handset soon. On the other hand, the One V ships with the latest Android Iteration (Ice Cream Sandwich). Now, when it comes to OS the One V is the winner because of its pre-installed Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

Let's now move on to the cameras. The Xperia S comes in with a 5MP shutter with a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels and it can shoot videos at 720 pixels at 30 frames per second. It comes in with a VGA front-facing camera as well. The camera of the One S is the same as the Xperia S. It can shoot videos at 720 pixels and at 30 frames per second too. The only difference is that this handset does not have a front-facing camera. It is quite clear who the winner is, in this category.

Last but not the least, the estimated price for the Xperia S is around £200 while the One X is around £208. As you can see the price difference is not big at all. They are both affordable and truly budget-friendly. Now the choice is yours, whether you want to have the Sony Xperia U or the HTC One V.

Comparing Key Features Of The Samsung Galaxy S3 And Sony Xperia S

The Sony Xperia S is one of the most advanced Android smartphones out there. It has a powerful dual-core processor, advanced touchscreen and a camera with a whopping 12 megapixel resolution. Samsung meanwhile, has just released its latest flagship handset, the Galaxy S3. In this article I will compare a few of the key features of these two handsets so you can decide which one comes out on top.

Both handsets are their respective manufacturers' most advanced releases to date. To begin I will see what features the phone have in common...

The Android OS id the platform of choice, with the Samsung Galaxy S3 of course sporting the latest version called Ice Cream Sandwich. The Sony Xperia S has the previous Android version known as Gingerbread installed as standard, but it has been confirmed that it will support an update to Ice Cream Sandwich. Both handsets run their manufacturer-specific UI over the top. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has the TouchWiz UI, but this is also an updated version to that found on its popular predecessor, the Galaxy S2. The Sony Xperia S has the TimeScape UI, so both offer aesthetic and practical differences to the default Android interface. Aside from the software, the phones actually have very little in common when it comes to their main specifications.

In terms of their cameras, they are both very impressive. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has an 8 megapixel camera and this comes packed with nifty features like the ability to capture simultaneous photos and videos, the ingenious burst shot feature, and the ability to recognise your friends in photos through face recognition software. What the Sony Xperia S lacks in features like those mentioned on the Galaxy S2, it makes up for with its picture quality. At 12 megapixels this is one of the highest pixels resolutions of any camera phone and like the new Samsung, can capture video footage in up to 108p which is full high definition.

The processor is another major difference between these phones. The Sony Xperia S, at the time of its release shared the title (with the HTC Sensation XE) as the most powerful smartphone available in terms of its processing power, thanks to a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. At the MWC event in Barcelona in February though, several quad-core handsets were unveiled from the likes of HTC, LG and Huawei. The Samsung Galaxy S3 joins these as one of the few phones with a quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.4 GHz. This provides almost unrivalled performance from several aspects of the phone ranging from the quality of on screen graphics, the speed at which the camera operates, web browsing speeds and the responsiveness of the touchscreen to name but a few benefits. The Sony Xperia S is still a very powerful phone though, and unless you are well versed in the intricacies of this technology, you are unlikely to notice a difference during day to day use.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 goes to show how quickly smartphone technology is advancing. The Sony Xperia S is a great phone, but on paper some of its features have almost been rendered obsolete in a matter of months. If you want the latest and greatest smartphone technology currently available, look no further than the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Photography Features And Chipsets On The Sony Xperia S And The Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Sony Xperia S are two of the very best mobile devices that make use of the excellent Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Previously we took a look at the design and display quality on both of these models. We concluded that both models offered superb styling but the Sony eclipsed its rival for screen technology. Now we see how the models compare in terms of processing power and camera quality.

There is very little to choose between these two devices in terms of processing power with both handsets incorporating impressive chipsets. The Sony Xperia S uses a powerful Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon processor which boasts dual cores and is clocked at 1.5Ghz. This chip helps the model to deliver excellent performance speeds and the dual cores are especially beneficial for multi tasking. An Adreno 220 graphics processing unit is also featured on this model to ensure the phone can handle the most demanding games titles that are available. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus also incorporates a dual core processor but one that is clocked at a lower speed of 1.2Ghz. This ARM Cortex A9 processor still manages to deliver super operation speeds and there is no noticeable difference between this model and the Xperia S in terms of performance. A PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing chip ensures that games titles and video playback is superb. The dual core chipsets on both of these models deliver excellent operation speeds and despite the slightly less powerful configuration on the Galaxy Nexus performance on both models is almost identical.
Sony Xperia S And The Samsung Galaxy Nexus
One area where the Sony Xperia S does impress us more than its rival is with its excellent photography features. Sony have always provided excellent cameras on their devices and this model in no exception. The Xperia S can capture photographs at a resolution of 12 mega pixels. Thanks to the excellent BSI sensor that is also used the image quality is superb. A secondary camera is also present on the model which can capture 1.3 mega pixel photographs. Some useful features are also present to help users in capturing the highest possible quality. An LED flash, smile detection and auto focus are all very useful while more unusual features such as a 3D Sweep Panoramic mode is a fun and innovative introduction. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus offers a still camera feature with a resolution of 5 mega pixels which is considerably lower than what the Xperia S boasts. The model does however still produce some high quality images thanks to a good quality sensor and some excellent features which include face detection and touch focus. Both handsets record video footage at 1080P resolution.

The Sony Xperia S and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus are both powerful phones that offer excellent operation speeds. The Sony model does offer more in the way of photographic quality thanks to an extremely high resolution and a superb BSI sensor.

A Look At How The Samsung Galaxy S3 And The Sony Xperia S May Compare For Design And Displays

We do not have long to wait until we are introduced to the new Galaxy S3, the eagerly awaited new smartphone from Samsung. This model is the successor to the popular Galaxy S2 device which was launched in 2011 and quickly became a hit with consumer thanks to its excellent specification. Recently we have seen a number of manufacturers launch new models boasting some excellent features. One such model is the superb Sony Xperia S which is regarded as one of the leading devices currently available. We see how the rumoured specification of the new Samsung may compare with what this excellent Sony device has to offer.
Samsung Galaxy S3
At this moment in time we have only seen leaked images of the new Samsung Galaxy S3 but we are fairly certain that some recent images give us a good idea of what the device may look like. The model will definitely be larger than the Galaxy S2 thanks to the inclusion of a larger display. In terms of design the model looks likely to be very similar to its predecessor with a very slim profile and some neatly rounded edges. There have been numerous rumours that suggest that the new handset will be constructed from a new liquid metal material which well not only help the model offer great durability but also make the handset one of the most lightweight devices on the market. The new Sony Xperia S looks very similar to the other Xperia devices that have been released which is pleasing as these handsets have always offered some very stylish looks. From the front the model sports a very angular design which is in stark contrast to many new handsets that offer a more curved look. Turn the handset over however and you are greeted by a gently curved back panel which contrasts nicely against the more clinical design found on the fascia. An attractive transparent strip is located beneath the screen which helps the model to instantly stand out against its rivals. The model is constructed from high quality plastics which feel very comfortable in the palm of your hand. Although we have no official confirmation on the design of the new Samsung we are sure it will join the Xperia S as one of the most desirable phones on the market.
Sony Xperia S
The Samsung Galaxy S2 was a leading phone for screen technology and we can expect more of the same from the new Samsung Galaxy S3. It is rumoured that the model will feature a slightly larger 4.6 inch screen which still makes use of the excellent Super AMOLED technology. In terms of resolution there has been no confirmed figure although Samsung will be keen to rival the iPhone 4S which offers a pixel density of 330 pixels per inch. In order to achieve this we should expect the display to show a resolution of around 720 x 1184 pixels. Sony were also keen to match Apple in this department and have equipped the Xperia S with a wonderful display. The screen measures 4.3 inches in size and uses LED backlit technology. Sony have used their expertise in producing displays well on this model and have included some great features like the Bravia picture engine which helps the model to produce a great clarity of image. In terms of resolution the model offers 1280 x 720 pixels which equates to a pixel density of 342PPI.

There is no doubt that the new Samsung Galaxy S3 will offer some great screen technology but the Sony Xperia S also offers a great screen that is superior to any other Android device currently available. In terms of design we can expect the new Samsung to rival the Sony with a very slim profile and some eye catching styling.

A Look At After Touch - A New Photo Editing App For The Sony Xperia S

The majority of modern smartphones boast some superb camera features and one of the leading devices in this area is the Sony Xperia S. This excellent new phone includes a 12 million pixel primary camera that can capture very high quality images. A range of applications are available for consumers that enable them to add effects to their images to give them a much more professional appearance. One of the newest apps available for the Xperia S is After Focus, a new piece of software which offers some brilliant features.

Unlike may photo editing applications currently available After Focus does not boast any social networking features that enable you to upload images directly to certain sites. This software is a stand alone photo editing tool and it is perfect for preparing your images before you upload them to other services. After Focus enables users of the Sony Xperia S to take a photograph from within the application or choose to edit another image that has already been captured with the phone. One of the most attractive features that this application offers is the ability to make certain areas of you image appear blurred which helps make the segment of the image that is in focus stand out even more. Users can opt to achieve this effect by simply circling the area that needs to remain focused on the screen. Alternatively the manual mode allows the blur to be applied at various levels on specified areas of the shot. This effect produces some fantastic results and it looks superb on the Xperia S thanks to the large display and excellent image quality that is on offer.

Sony Xperia S
The After Touch application for the Sony Xperia S also offers a wealth of other features in addition to the focus modes that we have discussed. A wide array of filters are available that help give your image a very different look. The usual filters are all available including Sepia which takes most of the colour out of the shot to leave a photograph with an attractive vintage effect. Once you have created an image that you are happy with the photo can be saved to your photo collection on the handset. Users can then choose to share the image by using the Android Share feature on the phone which easily enables the shot to be uploaded to sites such as Picassa and Facebook or sent in an e mail. This process does take slightly longer than alternative apps that have share features incorporated but it is a small price to pay for achieving such excellent final results.

After Focus is a powerful photo editing tool for the Sony Xperia S. Despite the lack of social networking integration the software still impresses thanks to a range of excellent options that help users to achieve some wonderful images.

The HTC One S And The Sony Xperia P - A Look At Processing Power And Storage Options

Some of the biggest smartphone manufacturers on the planet have recently unveiled brand new ranges and two of the most impressive that we have seen come from HTC and Sony. These line ups both feature flagship models and also more budget devices aimed at first time smartphone users. We take a look at the two mid range devices in each range, the HTC One S and the Sony Xperia P, and see what the handsets offer in terms of processing power and storage capacity.

Both of these two models incorporate chipsets that could have graced many flagship models 12 months ago. The HTC One S features a dual core processor that forms part of the new Snapdragon S4 Krait chipset. The processor itself is clocked at a very powerful 1.5Ghz and delivers excellent operation speeds to the user while the dual cores mean that the device handles multi tasking features with ease. Accompanying this processor is an Adreno 225 graphics processing unit which boast enough power to handle the most demanding games titles currently available. Considering that this is a mid range device we were very impressed with what the model offers in this area. We experienced no problems when testing the phone and we really did find it hard to differentiate between this model and the premium HTC One X in this department. The Sony Xperia P also boasts a dual core processor but one that is clocked at just 1Ghz. Despite the chip being considerably less powerful we found that its performance was still impressive. Sony have always included high quality single core chips on their older devices and it is evident that this quality extends to the new dual core processors that the company are using. A DB8500 graphics processing unit is also used on the phone which should prove more than adequate for any games that are downloaded although it does lack the performance that the Adreno chip used on the HTC device can deliver.
HTC One S And The Sony Xperia P
The HTC One S comes with 16GB of internal storage capacity. This should prove more than ample for the majority of phones users and should provide enough capacity for over 4000 audio tracks or up to 16 hours of video footage. Unfortunately the handset does not feature a micro SD card slot so there is now way of expanding this capacity but users can opt for one of the various cloud storage services available which provide additional storage. HTC have arranged a deal with cloud storage provider Dropbox and all users of this phone have access to 25GB of free storage. The Sony Xperia P offers exactly the same internal storage as the One S and also does not feature a micro SD card. Users of this phone can opt for an additional cloud storage service although Sony have yet to arrange a deal that allocates users of their devices free storage. Both models are almost identical in this department but the free Dropbox option gives the HTC model the edge.

The HTC One S and the Sony Xperia P are both exceptional mid range devices that actually compare very well with many premium handsets. Both phones include excellent dual core chipsets but the HTC offers a little more in terms of processing power. In terms of storage both units are evenly matched but users of the One S are provided with free cloud storage which is very appealing.

The Sony Xperia S And The Galaxy Nexus - An Overview Of Design And Displays

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was the first mobile handset to be released with the new Ice Cream Sandwich version of the Android operating system installed. Since we have seen the introduction of this model a number of new devices have arrived that also boast the updated software. We see how the Nexus compares with the Sony Xperia S, one of the most impressive ICS handsets currently on the market. We take a look at design and screen technology on both of these models to see which handset comes out on top.

Sony Xperia S
The Sony Xperia S is the first handset introduced to the Xperia range since Sony took full control from former partner Ericsson. Despite this change the model still looks very similar to many previous Xperia phones that have been launched which is pleasing as the phones are generally regarded as some of the best designed devices available. The model measures 128 x 64 x 10.6mm and weighs just 144 grammes. The model offers a very angular design when you look at it from the front yet when it is turned over the back panel sports a gentle curve that helps the device to sit very comfortably in the palm of your hand. Sony have added some design changes in order to make this new range stand out from older models that they have produced. A transparent bar sits beneath the three capacitive buttons which are located below the screen. This bar contains LED lights which highlight the buttons above it and it certainly helps the device achieve a look that is very different from all other devices. Samsung always produce stylish devices and the Galaxy Nexus is no different. The model offers a design which is much curvier than its rival and this works particularly well on a large handset such as this than it does on many smaller screened devices. The model measures 135.5 x 67.9 x 8.9mm and weighs just 135 grammes. You will notice that both the depth measurement and the weight are less than the Xperia S which will help the model to appeal to many consumers. The screen dominates the fascia and is surrounded by a very slim bezel which means that the display almost covers the entire front panel which looks great. Despite different designs both of these handset looks superb and are two of the nicest looking handsets on the market. Consumer looking for a more angular design will obviously favour the Sony while those wanting a softer and curvier finish will be more attracted to the Galaxy Nexus.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Things are not so evenly matched when we look at the screen technology incorporated on both models. The Sony Xperia S boasts the superior screen to the Xperia S and just about every other phone currently available. The model sports an LED backlit LCD screen which measures 4.3 inches. This screen can produce an extremely high resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels which results in an iPhone 4S beating pixel density of 342PPI. Colours look bright and vivid and we also found that viewing the screen in bright conditions was also very impressive. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus uses a larger display that makes use of the company's own Super AMOLED technology. In terms of resolution the Nexus offers the same standard as the Sony but on a larger 4.65 inch display. This has a negative effect on pixel density which drops to 316PPI. This type of quality is enough to eclipse most other phones on the market and the screen does work extremely well. Unfortunately for Samsung the Xperia S is a market leader in this area and therefore impresses us more for image quality.

The Sony Xperia S and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus are two superb new handsets that both boast the very latest version of the Android operating system. Both models sport striking yet very different designs but the Sony impresses us more for screen technology thanks to its wonderful display.

The Sony Xperia U And The Xperia Sola

Sony introduced their new Xperia line handsets during the recent Mobile World Congress 2012 (Barcelona, Spain). After launching their first Sony only branded handset the Sony Xperia S (Xperia line flagship) last February, Sony decided that it is high-time to introduce the rest of the Xperia Gang (P, U, and Sola) to the whole world. However, in this article we will focus on the Sony Xperia U and the Sony Xperia Sola only.

Read on!
As part of Sony's grand plan (designing the Xperia line after the S), the latest Sony handsets are enamored with the famous transparent strip. This alone makes the handset appears as stylish and futuristic looking as the first Sony Xperia handset.

Sony Xperia U
Of the two handsets, the Xperia U is on the petite side (its actual dimensions are 112 x 54 x 12mm). The Xperia Sola is a bit bigger (but slimmer) with its 116 x 59 x 9.9mm dimensions. Surprisingly, the Xperia U weighs more at 110 grams than the Xperia Sola. It weighs in at 107 grams only. Now, not only is that latter slimmer, it is also lighter than the petite Xperia U.

The Xperia U comes in with a 3.5" LED-backlit LCD display screen (with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels), while the Xperia Sola comes in with a 3. 7" Capacitive touch screen (with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels). They both have the same screen resolution, but the Xperia Sola's screen is a bit bigger than its sibling.

The Xperia U's bottom caps are interchangeable while the other one is fixed. You can personalize this handset to your heart's content. Even the phone's screen color can change as well. This is probably the phone's magic weapon. On the other hand, the Xperia Sola boasts the latest Floating Touch technology by Sony. With this, you will be able to navigate the phone's browser without even touching the phone's screen. Sounds cool? It is super cool! But the only drawback is that the said feature is limited to the phone's browser only. Well, Sony made a promise that soon enough they will try to make the said feature work outside the phone's browser.

Sony Xperia Sola
Both of these handsets are packed with a 5MP Shutters with a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels and they both have an LED flash. They both ship with Android Gingerbread. But Sony promises an upgrade to the latest Android Iteration the Ice Cream Sandwich in the near future.

The Sony Xperia U is now available, while the Sony Xperia Sola is expected to be out on the market by second quarter of this year.

The Sony Xperia P And Its Sibling The Sony Xperia S

The Sony Xperia P was recently announced during the Mobile World Congress 2012 (Barcelona Spain); on the other hand its sibling the Sony Xperia S came out last February. We all know that the Sony Xperia S is the Xperia flagship and is also the very first "Sony Only" branded handset. This is also the benchmark for recent Xperia handsets announced during the Mobile World Congress. The other Xperia line handsets are the Xperia P, Xperia U, and the Xperia Sola. And boy, they do take after their big brother the Xperia S when it comes to outer appearance. But let us focus on the Xperia P and Xperia S. Read on!

Displays
When it comes to displays, the Xperia P is dwarfed by its sibling. It comes in at 4" only while the other one is packed with a bigger screen at 4.3". But then again, the difference is not that big at all. I mean at.3" you can barely notice the difference if you put the two handsets side by side. When it comes to resolutions, the Xperia P comes in with a 540 x 960 pixels with a pixel density of 275 ppi. Its sibling comes in with a 720 x 1280 pixels with a pixel density of 342 ppi. Again, it is pretty obvious who the winner is when it comes to clarity. But then again, both of them are packed with the famous Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine. So that's makes them a bit equal. But there is another "BUT", this is because the Xperia flagship boasts the Sony WhiteMagic technology.

Sony Xperia P
Cameras
The Xperia P packs an 8MP shutter (with a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels) while its sibling comes in with a 12MP (with a resolution of 4000 x 3000 pixels) shutter. Both of them are equipped with LED flash. They can also record videos at 1080 pixels and at 30 frames per second (fps). So they are pretty equal when it comes to video recording capabilities. The Xperia P packs a VGA front-facing camera while the other one packs a 1.3MP front-facing camera with 720 pixels and with a rate of 30 frames per second (fps).

Processor And OS
The Xperia P packs a 1GHz dual-core processor while the Xperia S uses a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It is quite obvious who's equipped with the fastest processor. But then again, the difference is not that high. When it comes to the phone's OS, the Xperia P ships with the latest Android Iteration the Ice Cream Sandwich while its flagship brother ships with Android Gingerbread for its OS. If you look at this angle only, you will say that the newest Xperia handset is far better than its flagship brother. But then again, the Ice Cream Sandwich update is expected to land on this handset soon. So now, they are pretty equal again.

Sony Xperia S
Truly, there is no winner and loser in this comparison game. Both the Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia S are with merits and demerits. But, both are quite deserving of your attention. They are powerful and stylish. You will also get the first handset with a transparent strip that lights up when there is an incoming message or phone call. With this, you will never miss any message or miss precious calls again (even if its pitch dark).
