The New Samsung Galaxy Beam And The Old Samsung I8520 Galaxy Beam

Back in 2010, Samsung came out with their very first projector handset and it was called the Samsung I8520 Galaxy Beam. Forward to 2012, Samsung announced another projector phone and is also named as the Samsung Galaxy Beam. So what made Samsung create another projector phone with the same name? The answer is quite simple. The first Samsung I8520 Galaxy Beam was not released worldwide. This year, Samsung wanted to share this amazing handset and even upgraded it with a powerful 1GHz dual-core processor.

From 720Mhz processor, now the new handset is more powerful with its 1GHz dual-core processor. The phone's OS is also upgraded to Android Gingerbread from the original Android Éclair. This handset is also bigger at 124 x 64.2 x 12.5mm, while the older version's dimensions are 123 x 59.8 x 14.9mm. The newhandset may be bigger than its predecessor but it is lighter at 145.3 grams. The other one weighs in at 156 grams.

So what else is new? The new handset features a 4" TFT capacitive touch screen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels at 223ppi for its pixel density. The older one may have a smaller screen size at 3.7" with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels at 252 ppi for its pixel density, but it featured an amazing Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen display. You can say that the new Galaxy Beam's screen display is a downgrade despite of its bigger size. But then again, we all love bigger screens!

These handsets feature a microSD card slot and you can upgrade your memory up to 32GB on these handsets. Again, the newest Beam's internal storage was downgraded to a mere 8GB. The older one boasts a 16GB worth of internal storage. However, the newest handset boasts a 768 MB worth of RAM while the other one is at 384MB RAM only.

The latest handset offers a 5MP camera with a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. It comes with a 1.3MP front-facing camera and can record videos at 720p at 30 frames per second. The older one comes in with an 8MP shutter with a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. It comes with a front-facing VGA camera only and can record videos at 720p at 30 frames per second. Both of the said handsets feature an LED flash and auto-focus.

The older handset may have better stuff (i.e. camera, display screen, and memory storage), but the latest Samsung Galaxy Beam is more powerful than its predecessor. You can also add the fact that its OS is way better than the older version. But one thing is for sure, these handsets are rare for having integrated projectors inside of them. So both of them are winners!
