Choosing Between The Samsung Galaxy S2 And iPhone 4S

With so many new smartphones to choose from, with an equally comprehensive array of technology, choosing the right phone can be difficult at the best of times. In this article I will look at some of the popular phones available, and why they may suit different types of users.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is one of the most popular Android smartphones of all time, with over 40 million sales to its name. There are several reasons for its popularity. The first is its screen, which is well known for its display quality, wide viewing angles and responsiveness due to its AMOLED capacitive panel. At 4.3 inches, the screen is also ideally sized for watching full screen movies, while remaining pocket friendly. In terms of processing power, it is a very capable device; with a 1.2 GHz dual-core chip which provides excellent performance from all aspects of the phone's hardware and software alike. The Samsung Galaxy S2 runs the popular Android OS. It ships with the Gingerbread version, but also supports an update to the Ice Cream Sandwich platform so in terms of its software it is as up to date as the likes of the Galaxy S3 and HTC One X. The Samsung TouchWiz UI runs over the top of this, and like HTC Sense it is well known for the ability to customise the homescreens and of course download apps from Google Play. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is a perfect all round smartphone. Rather than excel at one or two tasks, it is perfect for carrying out any job you throw at it. It is also a stylish device and remarkably slim, so it really does tick all the boxes.

Of course, I cannot write an article about choosing a new smartphone without discussing the iPhone 4S. As Apple's most popular product to date it is well known for its versatility. One of the strengths of the iPhone 4S is its multimedia capabilities, which are provided by Apple's multimedia ecosystem which includes integration with other Apple services like iTunes, AppStore and built in iPod functionality. These features alone would guarantee good sales, but it also offers a great 'retina' screen for superb display quality, dual-core processor and an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture. Web browsing is also a well known strength of iPhones in general, with the Safari app providing a desktop like internet experience. The AppStore also increases the potential versatility of the handset, with apps covering every possible scenario. There are plenty of categories within the AppStore, whereby you can choose from over 500,000 apps which are all optimised for the iPhone 4S screen and processor etc.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is arguably the best Android phone out there (except maybe for the new releases from Samsung and HTC) but certainly the most popular. As an iPhone alternative, it would be my top recommendation. The iPhone 4S though is simply the best phone Apple has ever released, especially in terms of its multimedia functionality.

It would be unfair to say that one of these phones is better than the other, as they are both very different devices with the fundamental difference being the operating systems which is generally what divides opinions. Both are great choices though, and you are sure to be pleased with whatever one you choose.
