The BlackBerry Bold 9900 Still A Leading Device Despite Not Supporting BlackBerry 10 OS

BlackBerry currently boast one of the most extensive ranges of mobile phones. This line up includes entry level Curve devices and more premium handsets such as the BlackBerry Bold 9900. The company also recently unveiled their new BlackBerry 10 operating system which they hope will help them to compete with other leading platforms such as iOS and Android. The bad news for owners of existing BlackBerry devices is that this new software will not be made available for current models and new models will be launched that feature this new software.

The news that the new BlackBerry OS will not work with existing handsets will disappoint thousands of users especially those who currently own flagship devices like the Bold 9900. Representatives from RIM, the company who produce the range, have commented that there is one device that will support the new platform and this is the excellent Playbook tablet. There are no exact dates about when the Playbook will make the change but we would expect to see it happen very shortly after the official launch which will be during the third quarter of 2012. Although the current range of smartphones will not support BlackBerry 10 there is do doubt that RIM will continue to provide users with updates for existing platforms so that these phones will continue to provide excellent features that compare well with phones running on other software.

It looks as though the BlackBerry Bold 9900 will cease to be the flagship model in the RIM range as it is expected that a number of new models will launch alongside the new software. This does not mean that the phone is out dated as it still is one of the leading phones currently on the market. The Bold 9900 offers an excellent 286PPI pixel density on its 2.8 inch screen. Although this screen is much smaller than most other smartphones it is worth remembering that the 9900 features a full qwerty keypad. This is a feature not present on many new phones and it is one of the main reasons why a large number of consumers still favour BlackBerry handsets. The model sports a powerful 1.2Ghz processor which delivers performance speeds that are comparable to many dual core devices thanks to the excellent power management that the BlackBerry OS offers. Other excellent features include a 5 mega pixel camera and 720P high definition video capture.

Although its days as the head of the BlackBerry family may be numbered, the Bold 9900 still offers a wealth of great features that make it one of the ultimate handsets on the market. The keypad is an obvious attraction but a great screen and powerful processor also impress on this model.
