Two Great Windows Phones - A Look At Design And Displays On The Nokia Lumia 900 And The HTC Titan 2

The Windows Mobile operating system has improved considerably over the past two years and some of the new handsets that support this platform compare very well against their rivals that adopt other operating systems such as Android and iOS. Two of the best windows devices currently available are the Nokia Lumia 900 and the HTC Titan 2 so we take a look and see which of these two models comes out on top.

In terms of design we find the Nokia Lumia 900 the most appealing of the two devices. The whole Lumia range of handsets boast excellent design and being the premium model in the range the Lumia 900 is the most attractive of all of them. The phone is not really similar to any other phone on the market which is in contrast to the Titan 2 which looks very similar to a number of other phones that HTC have released over the last two years. The Nokia sports a very angular design and the main body of the phone is made from a single piece of Polycarbonate which feels very robust and looks superb. The device measures 127.8 x 68.5 x 11.5mm while the weight of the model tips the scales at a rather heavy 160 grammes. The Titan 2 is an even larger handset thanks to the massive 4.7 inch screen that it incorporates. The model measures 132 x 69 x 13mm but what is surprising about this model is that it weighs 13 grammes less than the Lumia at 147 grammes. The HTC is also a very well built mobile phone and although it lacks the uni body design of its rival it is built from some lovely looking metals that help it to look expensive and also feel very well made. Both of these handsets offer a striking design and great build quality but the Lumia 900 comes out on top thanks to its more unusual appearance and more compact dimensions.

The Nokia Lumia 900 features a 4.3 inch screen which makes excellent use of AMOLED technology to deliver very bold colours and superb viewing angles. The screen can display a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels which equates to a reasonable pixel density of 217PPI. This figure is superior to the HTC Titan 2 which can display only 199 pixels per inch thanks to the same resolution being offered on a larger 4.7 inch screen. The HTC display uses S-LCD technology which delivers great image quality although when we tested the phones we found that the colours displayed on this device were not as vibrant as those on the Nokia. In addition to the better image quality the AMOLED screen on the Lumia 900 is also less demanding on the battery which helps the model to offer longer battery life. For users who are looking for a large screen for gaming and movie playback then the HTC will be the phone of choice but anybody prepared to accept a smaller screen will get better results from the excellent Nokia.

The Nokia Lumia 900 and the HTC Titan 2 are two superb phones that run on the excellent Windows operating system. Both of these models boast stylish looks but the Nokia does offer a slightly more unusual design while the model also produces superior image quality on its smaller display.
